This DISA repair kit is designed to restore the functionality of the intake manifold adjustment system used in BMW engines N51, N52, N52N and N52K. The DISA system (Differenzierte Sauganlage) controls the airflow inside the intake manifold and helps optimize engine performance across different RPM ranges.
The system operates using a vacuum actuator controlled by the engine management system. By adjusting the position of an internal flap inside the intake manifold, the DISA unit changes the effective length of the intake runners. Narrow intake passages are used at mid-range engine speeds to improve torque, while wider passages are used at higher RPM to maximize airflow and power.
Over time, the original plastic components inside the DISA valve can wear out or break. The plastic flap and linkage mechanism are particularly vulnerable and may develop excessive play or completely fail. When this happens, drivers may notice rattling noises, loss of power, or rough engine operation.
