EA888 Gen 2 VVT Phase Adjuster Repair Kit (5-Piece Vane Set)
For Audi & Volkswagen 1.8T / 2.0T TSI & TFSI Engines
If your Gen 2 engine sounds like a diesel at idle or throws "Camshaft Position Bank 1" timing codes, the internal vanes (spatulas) in your intake camshaft sprocket are likely worn. This 5-piece repair kit allows you to rebuild the phase regulator, saving you the high cost of a complete camshaft replacement.
Common Symptoms of Worn Vanes:
-
Loud Rattle: A distinct "dieseling" noise at idle and up to 1500 RPM.
-
Fault Codes: Rare but persistent errors regarding camshaft timing/correlation.
-
Power Loss: Sluggish throttle response and decreased low-end torque.
-
High Mileage: Common in engines with 110,000+ miles (180k km).
Technical Specifications:
-
Material: Premium Bearing Steel (SHX-15).
-
Hardness: Surface hardened to 50 HRC (Superior to the OEM 46-48 HRC rating for increased wear resistance).
-
Compatibility: Designed specifically for the mechanical adjusters found on Gen 2 intake shafts.

Installation Guide & Professional Advice
IMPORTANT: This is a precision task. Internal components are under spring tension.
-
Preparation: Remove the solenoid and mechanical valve (Left-Hand Thread—turn clockwise to loosen).
-
Safety First: Seal all oil passages leading to the oil pan with clean rags. If a part falls into the pan, you will be forced to perform a complete pan removal.
-
Disassembly: Remove the shaft support bridge. Unscrew the 5 bolts on the phase regulator carefully; hold the cover to prevent the valve spring from popping out.
-
Vane Replacement: Use a magnet or tweezers to remove the old vanes. Do not lose the small leaf springs located under each vane.
-
Wear Compensation:
-
Rotate the rear cover 1–3mm against the direction of rotation to compensate for seat wear.
-
Shift the front cover by one bolt hole so the locking pin contacts a fresh, unworn surface.
-
-
Reassembly: Lubricate all parts with fresh engine oil. Tighten the mechanical valve to 35Nm.
-
Final Rule: Never rotate the engine counter-clockwise during or after installation.
