Replacement Instructions

1. Remove the wiper linkage with the electric motor.
2. Remove the motor from the linkage.
3. Mark the gear position relative to the arm. Restore approximately the same position on assembly; precise 1mm positioning is not required because the zero position is set after assembly.
4. Drive the arm out of the gear.
5. Inspect the steel worm for damage, such as chips.
6. Chips can cause increased wear of the gear during operation.
7. Smooth the damaged area of the worm to remove sharp edges.
8. Remove rust if the motor has been stored and the worm has corroded.
9. Press the new gear into position.
10. The gear uses a tight press fit.
11. Warm the gear with a hot-air dryer before pressing.
12. Support the plastic gear on something soft, such as a magazine, to protect it during pressing. Do not hammer the arm shaft into place or force it deeper with a vice; this can damage the gear. A vice can also be used for controlled pressing.
13. Perform installation at room temperature.
14. Fill the mechanism with grease. Loss or drying of grease can lead to tooth wear.
15. Reinstall the linkage and connect the electrical connector. Run the wiper without fitting the wiper arms/blades to establish the zero position.
16. Fit the wiper arms/blades after the motor stops.
17. The wiper motor repair is complete.
