When to Inspect the Wastegate
- Rattling from the exhaust manifold area.
- Increased fuel consumption or reduced acceleration.
- Low-boost faults during sustained hard acceleration above 90 km/h, sometimes without a Check Engine light.
- Low boost-pressure faults.
- Misfire faults at high engine speed.
Wear can be present around 100 000 km, but mileage alone does not establish the condition. Heat cycles and water, sand, dust or dirt around the rods can contribute to wear. Diagnose the wastegate and boost control before choosing the repair.
