Replacement Procedure

1. Remove the right wheel and clamps and pull back the right rack boot.
2. Disconnect the tie rod only from the rack and remove the rubber damper.
3. Turn the steering fully left.
4. Clean the seating area thoroughly.
5. Center the steering and insert the bushing by hand into its seat for centering. If it does not fit the shaft, wrap fine abrasive paper around a 17mm socket and adjust the insert. The bushing must fit the shaft without play.
6. Refit the tie rod by hand without the retaining ring.
7. Start the vehicle and turn the steering fully right.
8. Lubricate the rack shaft.
9. Remove the tie rod, refit the rubber damper and secure the rod with its locking feature.
10. Refit the boot in its seat and reinstall the wheel.

Extractor and Fit Adjustment

• The extractor plate is used to remove the bushing: secure it with two screws and use the rack shaft to press the bushing out.
• Adjustment option 1: if steering is excessively stiff after installation, turn it fully right with the tie rod removed. The shaft moves inward, giving access to the bushing; use abrasive paper to adjust the inner bushing surface.
• Adjustment option 2: with the shaft recessed inside the rack, attach the extractor plate to the bushing with two bolts. Start the vehicle and turn steering left so the shaft presses the bushing out. Adjust the bushing on the shaft without play and press it back into place.
