Hydraulic Steering Rack Support Bushing - Ford Focus 2 / 3 C-Max

This support bushing repairs the right side of the hydraulic or electro-hydraulic steering rack on the listed Ford applications. It replaces the worn bushing in a threaded housing without removing the complete rack.

• Ford Focus 2 - 2005-2011.
• Ford Focus 3 - 2011-2017; hydraulic / electro-hydraulic steering.
• Ford C-max - 2003-2010.

Rack Version and Repair Scope

For hydraulic and electro-hydraulic racks. Not compatible with electric power steering (EPS). The bushing addresses wear-related knocking on the right side, described as the passenger side. Confirm bushing wear and the installed rack version before repair.

Installation

1. Remove the front right wheel.
2. Remove the clamps from the right steering rack gaiter and slide the gaiter toward the wheel. Obtain a new large gaiter-to-rack clamp; a 40-60mm screw clamp is specified as suitable.
3. Unscrew the tie rod from the steering rack. The outer tie-rod end can remain fitted.
4. Turn the steering fully to the right.
5. Use the special wrench to unscrew the support bushing. After removing it, do not turn the steering or start the vehicle: the seal can be forced out and power-steering fluid can escape.
6. Use the special wrench to screw the new bushing fully in and tighten it firmly.
7. Turn the steering fully left and apply a thin layer of lithium grease to the shaft.
8. Reassemble in reverse order.

Do not turn the steering or start the vehicle while the support bushing is removed.

Fit Check

The bushing should move on the shaft with moderate force, freely enough but without play. If slight shaft wear results in an excessively tight fit, lightly sand the bushing to allow freer movement.
