One of the common problems in BMW vehicles with M-series engines is a problem with the oil cup valve. Over time, the body of this part can wear out, which leads to an incorrect position of the valve obturator and oil leakage into the sump. When starting the engine, there are unpleasant sounds such as clatter and knock, and the indicator on the dashboard is activated, indicating problems with the oil.
Ignoring this problem is impractical, since the oil cup valve in the M50, M52, M52TU, M54 engines performs an important function: it maintains the oil level in the cup when the engine is idle, preventing oil from flowing out of the oil filter. Otherwise, this can lead to premature wear of the engine with noticeable knocking.
Often, an oil cup valve for the BMW M50, M52, M52TU, M54 can only be purchased complete with an oil filter housing, the cost of which is about 7000UAH. However, only the shut-off valve itself needs to be replaced.
We offer a separate oil cup valve made of high quality aluminum alloys and steel.
Advantages of our valve:
- Improved design to eliminate valve wear
- Long service life exceeding engine life
- The possibility of unwinding the valve body inside the oil cup is excluded
- Larger flow capacity compared to the original valve
Before replacing the valve, make sure that the following problems do not exist or have been corrected, as valve replacement is not useful if:
- The sealing rings on the filter housing are worn out (damaged or become "wooden" from aging);
- Blockage of the oil receiver or suction in connection with the oil pump;
- Worn crank group (liners, crankshaft);
- Worn oil pump;
- The engine mileage does not match the oil used, or poor quality oil with a long drain interval is used.
After receiving the valve, check it for tightness:
- Check thread tightness by hand;
- Apply a small amount of oil to the contact surfaces of the valve to create an oil film at the contact point;
- Place the valve on a piece of paper and let it soak in the oil.
If after 10 hours the sheet remains dry, then the valve can be installed.
If the sheet becomes oily, lapping of the contact surfaces is necessary.
- Disassemble the valve, remove the oil, apply a small amount of cylinder head valve lapping paste, rub the valve core against the contact surface with a rotary motion. Flush the valve.
- Repeat check.
Installation instructions:
- Remove the old valve with special tools
- Clean the mounting hole from dust and oil residues
- Install the new valve, making sure the contact surfaces match up and avoid distortion (Important: installing the valve deeper than 1 mm from the contact surface may cause it to jam)
- After replacing the valve, also replace the oil filter gasket
