The turbocharger bypass (recirculation) valve on Volvo 2.5T and other TD04L platforms uses a rubber diaphragm to control boost pressure during throttle-off. When the diaphragm tears, the valve stops closing properly — causing turbo surge, compressor damage, and flat spots during acceleration. This replacement diaphragm restores correct bypass valve function.
