Wastegate Inspection
Inspect wear, damage, deformation, play, leaks and seating. Check the turbocharger or actuator marking, mechanism travel and rod play before selecting the repair. Confirm the affected component by inspection; a vehicle model alone does not identify the required turbo version.
Turbo and Kit Version
Listed turbocharger references: 11657583904, 11657636423, 11657636426, 11657583909. Kit reference: 18539880002. Compare the original wastegate design; the reference list alone does not establish that differently marked kit versions are identical.
Installation Requirements
- Remove the turbochargers from the engine. Removal together with the engine can be more convenient; experienced technicians may remove them without removing the engine from the body. Check N55 turbocharger play and catalytic converter condition.
- Unbolt the N55 vacuum wastegate regulators.
- Mark the original flap position relative to the turbocharger, then remove the old flap using a grinder.
- Argon-arc welding is required. Set the new flap in the marked position and weld the lever to the rod.
- Refit the vacuum regulator. Replace worn vacuum lines and clean or replace the N55 electromagnetic pressure converters as needed.
- Use new oil supply hoses, cooling system hoses, seals and gaskets during installation.
