Is your BMW M47 engine clattering on cold starts? If your oil pressure warning light stays on for several seconds after ignition, your Oil Filter Housing (OFH) Check Valve has likely failed.
In the E39 and E46 M47 engines, the original plastic valve wears down, allowing oil to drain back into the sump when the engine is off. This causes "dry starts," leading to catastrophic engine wear over time.
Installing a valve will NOT solve a low oil pressure problem in the engine - make sure that:
- the oil receiver is not clogged, not destroyed, has no air leaks
- the oil pump generates the pressure required by TIS on a hot and cold engine
- no wear of the crank group (liners, crankshaft)
- the correct, not clogged filter is installed, the rings on the oil cup cover are soft, not old
- the oil poured into the engine corresponds to the mileage and temperature conditions of using the car
- oil pressure sensor installed with the correct range of operation and quality firm
