The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is designed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by partially redirecting exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. This lowers the oxygen concentration in the air-fuel mixture, which in turn reduces NOx formation. However, this process may lead to a decrease in engine power.
Removing the EGR system increases NOx levels but significantly reduces soot, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, eliminating EGR can improve fuel efficiency.
In BMW engines, the presence of EGR accelerates engine oil oxidation, which negatively affects engine condition.
EGR Removal Procedure:

Remove the EGR cooler and the EGR valve.

Block off the exhaust gas channel in the exhaust manifold and the cooler.

Install the diffuser pipe.

After mechanical removal, it is recommended (but not required) to disable EGR via ECU software.

- Before ordering, be sure to check the length of your flange. It should be 98 mm, as shown in the 4th photo.
